MOSCOW – In the early hours of Tuesday, an unknown attacker set off an explosive by a police patrol car in Moscow, resulting in his own death and that of an officer, while two additional officers sustained injuries, according to official reports.
The explosion occurred just after midnight close to the Savyolovsky Train Station, located in the heart of the Russian capital, as detailed by the Moscow branch of the Interior Ministry.
Officials reported that the assailant approached the traffic police vehicle and triggered the explosive device, instantly claiming the life of one officer and wounding two others, who were subsequently taken to the hospital.
Russia’s Investigative Committee said it has launched a probe into the attack. It didn’t name the assailant or give any information about his possible motives or any further details.
The attack came on the day marking the fourth anniversary of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s decision to send troops into Ukraine.
