Boxing star Gervonta “Tank” Davis made headlines again, but this time for the wrong reasons. The undefeated WBA lightweight champion was arrested on July 11, 2025, in Miami Beach, Florida, facing domestic violence charges related to an alleged incident with his ex-girlfriend on Father’s Day.
This incident has sparked discussions, raising doubts about his upcoming boxing rematch and drawing attention to his legal past. Here’s a breakdown of the situation:
Reports suggest that the altercation occurred on June 15 when Davis went to his ex-girlfriend’s home in Doral to pick up their two children. An argument ensued, leading to Davis allegedly hitting her in the back of the head and slapping her, resulting in a minor cut on her lip. The victim even messaged her mother during the altercation, who recorded part of the incident, capturing a moment where Davis threw a small box at her.
When questioned by the police, Davis refused to sign a Miranda warning and was consequently detained without bond at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center in Miami-Dade County.
This isn’t the first time Davis has faced legal issues. In 2020, he was charged with domestic battery for forcibly removing the mother of his child from her seat during a basketball game, an incident caught on video.
In 2022, another domestic violence case against Davis was dropped after the accuser retracted her allegations. Additionally, Davis was under house arrest for 90 days following a hit-and-run incident in Baltimore in 2020 that harmed four individuals, including a pregnant woman.
Davis (30-0-1, 28 KOs) had been negotiating a rematch against Lamont Roach Jr. on August 16, following their contentious draw in March. However, this recent arrest has jeopardized those plans. Promoters have not confirmed whether the fight will proceed, leaving fans and analysts pondering what lies ahead for Davis in the boxing realm.
Although there are no official statements yet from Davis’s team, the boxing community is notably worried. Social media platforms are abuzz with demands for accountability, and many supporters are expressing disillusionment over these persistent allegations. As one Twitter user succinctly put it:
“Tank’s talent is undeniable, but this pattern is hard to ignore.”
