Kandi Burruss has shared her candid thoughts on her daughter Riley Burruss’ new boyfriend. On July 15, both the former star of The Real Housewives of Atlanta and the Next Gen NYC cast were on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen. During the show, they discussed Riley’s latest romantic involvement.
While at the Bravo Clubhouse, Andy Cohen inquired about Riley’s significant other after she had subtly acknowledged her relationship status on her Instagram stories a few days earlier. The Atlanta local was cautious about revealing too much, saying, “I think everyone knows I like to keep my life private, but now, you know —”
Andy kept pushing for answers, quipping, “You’re on a reality TV show.”
Riley then added, “But I still try to keep my love life, you know, close to my heart.” She mentioned that despite posting a sweet picture of the couple, she was surprised by how interested people were in the details of her romantic life.
Kandi also weighed in, noting, “This is the first time this has happened to her, so I sent it to our family group chat. I said ‘Riley, you made it! The blogs picked up your boyfriend!’”

Andy then asked Kandi how she felt about Riley’s new suitor, to which she declared, “I love him and I think he’s really nice.”

Although Riley wanted to keep the details of her relationship private, she did share that she and her boyfriend have known each other “for a while” and have been official for a few months.

Earlier this week, Riley visited Atlanta posted to see a Beyoncé concert with her mom and her special someone. During the trip, she posted an Instagram story showing off her glamorous, western-themed outfit for the night. The photo also featured a mystery man, who we now know to be her boyfriend, giving her a kiss on the cheek.

During an appearance on the Situationships Podcast on July 9, Riley shared that her mom has given her some dating advice. However, Riley doesn’t often find herself following it.
“I mean, my mom’s always talking about different things she’s learned, but I feel like it’s such a different time,” she explained.
“So a lot of things that people used to do, they don’t do anymore,” she continued. “Like, courtship is not much of a thing nowadays.”

The mom of three doesn’t just have opinions on her eldest daughter’s taste in partners, she also has thoughts on Riley’s career. During Next Gen NYC Season 1, Episode 5, Kandi made it clear that she wants Riley to become a lawyer, even though Riley was considering a career in music business.
“When you were growing up, we always had this plan: You’re gonna be a lawyer one day,” she reminded Riley in the episode.

Based on their recent appearance on WWHL, it seems like Kandi still wants Riley to pursue law. During a segment called BFF Test: Mother Daughter Edition, Andy asked both women what career Kandi thinks Riley should pursue. In true mother daughter fashion, both had the same answer.
“Law,” Riley responded. “Lawyer,” Kandi said at the same time.
