He achieved recognition by delivering his adjudication skills to the Eredivisie, the premier division of football in the Netherlands, starting in 2017. Throughout his career, Dieperink officiated an impressive total of 284 professional football matches in his home country.

In 2022, Dieperink rose to international prominence by becoming part of the global officiating roster. He was appointed as a video assistant referee (VAR) for prestigious events such as the 2024 European Championship and the Olympic Games. His responsibilities extended to European club tournaments, including a noteworthy role as assistant VAR during the 2024 UEFA Europa League final between Atalanta and Bayer Leverkusen at Dublin Arena, Ireland.

In April, Dieperink faced legal challenges when he was taken into custody by the Metropolitan Police following allegations of sexual assault involving a teenage boy in London. However, the BBC reported that these accusations were later cleared due to insufficient evidence. At the time, Dieperink was in London to oversee the Conference League quarter-final match between Crystal Palace and Fiorentina on 9 April.

According to a statement from the Metropolitan Police: “On Thursday, 9 April, officers were called to address allegations of sexual assault on a teenage boy at a location on Wellesley Road, Croydon. Subsequently, a man in his 30s was apprehended on suspicion of sexual assault.

“Officers completed a thorough investigation and reviewed all available evidence, including gathering CCTV and examining digital devices. Following these enquiries, they concluded that the evidential threshold had not been met. No further action will be taken.”

World Cup 2026

Dieperink had been selected to be a video assistant referee (VAR) official at the FIFA World Cup 2026, but was removed from FIFA’s list of World Cup officials in May following a police investigation in the UK.

After he was dropped from the World Cup, Dieperink said he had been “wrongly accused” in an interview with Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf.

“It saddens me greatly that I have been wrongly accused,” he said. “From the beginning, I have fully cooperated in the police investigation and also immediately gave full openness to FIFA, UEFA and the KNVB.”

“I am grateful for the support I have received from the KNVB and the way in which they have dealt with this case. It is a pity that FIFA has decided not to appoint me for the World Cup any more, of course I am disappointed about that.”
