The pilot of the personal luxury plane had fallen oblivious. Because the airplane entered limited airspace unannounced, two DoD-approved F-16s mixed from the Pentagon to catch the plane, causing a sonic blast across the D.C. region.

The Virginia State Police started an inquiry and salvage mission following getting reports of the accident. They tracked down no survivors.

The plane had left from Elizabethton, Tennessee, and was headed for Islip, New York.
