Joshua Jahn is the suspect in the attack at an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility in Dallas on September 24, 2025. According to Federal agents, the suspect took his own life after shooting three ICE detainees, killing one and critically injuring two others.

No motive was immediately announced. The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is investigating it “as an act of targeted violence,” and rounds found near the suspect contained messages that “are anti-ICE in nature,” according to Joe Rothrock, special agent in charge of the FBI’s Dallas field office. None of the people shot were members of law enforcement, he said.

Joshua and his older brother, Noah Jahn, grew up in Allen, Texas, where they participated in the Boy Scouts. Noah said Joshua had done coding work, but was currently unemployed and was planning to move onto their parents’ property in Bryan County, Oklahoma. The older brother said his parents owned a rifle, and Joshua knew how to use it.

Noah said his brother had not been especially interested in politics and had not voiced opinions to his family opposing the federal immigration enforcement agency, NBC News reported. Noah described Joshua as “unique” without elaborating. But he said Joshua was not one he would have ever thought would be involved in a politically motivated shooting.

“He didn’t have strong feelings about ICE as far as I knew,” said Noah. “I didn’t think he was politically interested. He wasn’t interested in politics on either side as far as I knew.”
