Who Is Russ Francis Wife Judy? American tight end Russell Ross Francis played professionally for 13 seasons in the National Football League (NFL) as a tight end. 

He was a member of the San Francisco 49ers and the New England Patriots.

Francis has 393 receptions for 5,262 yards and 40 touchdowns towards the end of his NFL career. In 1993, he was admitted into the Oregon Sports Hall of Fame.

Death Of Russ Francis

Francis perished in a plane crash near Lake Placid, New York, on October 1st, 2023. He was in his 70s. 

When Francis and Richard McSpadden took off in a Cessna 177 from Lake Placid Airport, the plane “experienced an emergency after takeoff.” 

The plane attempted to land back at the airport but failed and crashed into a ravine nearby. Francis and McSpadden died simultaneously. 

Grant, his son, and Annabel, his daughter, are also left behind. The AOPA requests that you keep his family in your prayers.

Numerous people loved Russ Francis. In addition to suiting up for the 49ers, he also played for the New England Patriots at various points in his career. 

In 14 seasons as a professional, he amassed 5,264 yards and 40 touchdowns, earning him three Pro Bowl selections.

According to the AOPA, McSpadden was in the right seat of the Cessna 177 Cardinal when it had an emergency shortly after takeoff at 4:09 p.m. ET. 

The AOPA issued a statement, according to Syracuse.com, that read: “The airplane attempted to return to the airport but failed to make the runway.” The lives of both occupants were lost.

Francis played for the Patriots from 1975 until he was moved to the 49ers in ’82 when New England chose him in the first round of the NFL Draft. 

He played for San Francisco’s Super Bowl XIX-winning squad. Francis was eventually released in 1987, returned to New England the following year, and then announced his retirement in 1989. He was given three Pro Bowl selections.
