In a letter dated October 28, Craig Mokhiber informed Volker Turk, the UN high commissioner in Geneva, that this would be his final correspondence with him while he was still working in New York.

“Once again, we are seeing a genocide unfolding before our eyes, and the organization we serve appears powerless to stop it,” wrote Mokhiber, who was stepping down after reaching retirement age.
“High Commissioner, we are failing again,” he said, citing the UN’s past failure to stop genocides against the Tutsis in Rwanda, Muslims in Bosnia, Yazidi in Iraqi Kurdistan, and Rohingya in Myanmar.

Before informing the High Commissioner that he would depart from his position in a few days, Mokhiber wrote: “We should not resign from the UN because of its past failures in Palestine.
Instead, it ought to instill in us the bravery to fully embrace a more moral path and renounce the outdated paradigm of the past.
As the Office for Human Rights in Palestine (OHCHR), let us join the global anti-apartheid struggle with courage and pride, adding our logo to the banner of equality and human rights for the Palestinian people.
