Career
McRae is originally from Glenelg in the South Australian National Football League. In 1995, he played every game for AFL club Brisbane after being drafted 22nd overall in the 1994 draft, and kicked two goals in his first game.

Craig as a Coach
During 2007, McRae served as the Richmond Football Club’s Player Development Coach. During the 2009 AFL season, McRae took over as head coach of Richmond’s VFL affiliate club Coburg, when Jade Rawlings was appointed caretaker head coach. As a development coach for the Brisbane Lions in 2010, McRae joined Collingwood as head of development in 2011. Over the course of five seasons, he remained with the club.
As an assistant coach in the AFL and head coach of Richmond’s VFL reserves side in 2016, McRae Craig returned to the club. After taking the side to a losing grand final in 2017, he won the VFL’s coach of the year award and the AFL coaches’ association’s assistant coach of the year award in 2019.
