Jewish organizations say that Kanye West sharing a post about a Jonah Hill movie and claiming that he likes Jewish people again does not erase his antisemitism.

Kanye West’s Jonah Hill post does not erase his racial remarks

Prominent Jewish groups like Seedog StopAntisemitism (SA) and the American Jewish Committee (AJC) recently talked to TMZ about Kanye West’s Jonah Hill post.

Moreover, both the organizations said that they need more than a social media message from West to believe that his views on antisemitism have changed.

In addition, these groups mentioned that they are willing to meet and discuss further steps with him. However, they added that the West needs to do way more to prove that its feelings towards Jews have altered.

Liora Rez, the executive director at SA, expressed her take while talking with the media outlet.

She said, ‘Joking about a movie with Jonah Hill is not the apology that the Jewish people deserve from Kanye. Particularly when his antisemitic tirades continue to have a dangerous trickle-down effect of hatred against Jews.’

Rez’s group labeled the 45-year-old rapper the ‘Anti Semite of the Year’ in 2022. Additionally, she said that forgiveness is one of the major values of f Jews. 

Hence, West still has the opportunity to be forgiven but he needs to denounce Fuentes publicly.

Richard Hirschhaut, a spokesperson for AJC, also spoke with TMZ. He confirmed that they are also not ready to West just yet. 

He stated, ‘It is a little odd that all it might take for Kanye to renounce his vile antisemitism is to watch an 11-year-old Jonah Hill movie. Whether Kanye is sincere, only he knows.’

Kanye West, who legally changed his name to Ye, took to his Instagram account on Friday night to reverse his previous antisemitic comments.

His post read, ‘Seeing Jonah Hill in 21 Jump street made me like Jewish people again. No one should take anger against one or two individuals and transform that into hatred towards millions of innocent people.’

He added, ‘No Christian can be labeled antisemite knowing Jesus is a Jew. Thank you Jonah Hill. I love you.’

If you didn’t know, West was banned from using social media sites like Instagram and Twitter last year for his antisemitic remarks.

The ban came after West stirred a major controversy after wearing a t-shirt that read, ‘White Lives Matter’ during the Paris Fashion Week. Subsequently, it was assumed to be a misappropriation of the slogan ‘Black Lives Matter.’
