Who Is Marc Thorpe?
Marc Thorpe, 77, was born in November 1946. He was an artist, a conceptual and animatronic designer, a mechanical engineer, and the founder and creator of Robot Wars.
He studied Fine Arts at the University of California Davis, from 1969 – 1971.
He built models for Star Wars and Indiana Jones, he had the idea for the famous show while designing outlandish weapons and droids

His career took off when he started making fictional war machines in 1992.
That year, Thorpe landed a job with the newfound business LucasToys – a division of Lucas Films that created figures and models based on George Lucas’ movies.
While he was attempting to design a radio-controlled vacuum cleaner, he remembers wondering what it would be like if his inventions had to fight, he wrote on his website.
It was at this moment that he had the idea for the program.
The show aired on BBC and was loved by those in the UK and other countries.
Robot Wars also held events in the US in 1995 and 1997 which helped to grow an American audience.
