The daughter of Dawn Zuidgeest-Craft (formerly Hemleb) and Robert Zuidgeest, Zee was born Ginger Renee Zuidgeest on January 13, 1981, in Orange, California. She was less than a year old when the family relocated to Michigan. Zee’s Dutch father, who loved the show, called her after “Ginger” from Gilligan’s Island.

Zee has two half-sisters, Adrianna and Elaina Craft, as well as a stepfather called Carl Craft in her extended family. Adriaan Cornelis “Adrian” or “Arie” Zuidgeest and Hillegonda “Hilda” Zuidgeest (née VanderShoor), who both came to the US from the Netherlands, are Zee’s paternal grandparents. Paula Adeline Wesner and George Joseph Hemleb are Zee’s maternal grandparents.

Her ethnicity is Dutch and she is an American citizen.

Since 2011, Ginger has been employed by ABC News, first as the weekend meteorologist on Good Morning America.

According to her own website, she is also a best-selling New York Times author for her book Natural Disaster.

In addition to the award-winning book’s sequel, she has created a series for children between the ages of 8 and 12.

The goal of the series is to inspire kids to think about a career in STEM fields, which stand for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

On top of that, she also is a climate change activist, fitness promoter, mental health advocate and was featured on season 22 of Dancing with the Stars.
