As of Sunday morning, five people had been killed and 25 others injured in a shooting at a nightclub in Colorado Springs.

Police Chief Adrian Vasquez announced that the shooter was Anderson Lee Aldrich during a press conference. The shooter opened fire immediately upon entering the club, but two people inside confronted him and battled him.

Currently, Aldrich is in the hospital being treated for his injuries. Police report that officers didn’t shoot at him.

Colorado has experienced some of the worst mass shootings in US history, including the Columbine High School massacre in 1999. Six people were killed at a birthday party in Colorado Springs last year as a result of a mass shooting.

What Happened To Anderson Lee Aldrich?

Police officials are investigating Anderson Lee Aldrich’s “interactions with law enforcement” related to Sunday’s Club Q shootings.

According to an earlier report by the Sheriff’s Office, a man with the same name and same age was arrested in June 2021 after a bomb threat forced residents in a Lorson Ranch neighborhood in southeast Colorado Springs.

The official did not reveal Sunday what happened to the case or how it was resolved. The Colorado Bureau of Investigation reports that Aldrich has no public criminal record.

Aldrich’s arrest will include an investigation of his interactions with law enforcement in the past, officials told reporters at a press conference Sunday morning.

The shooting lasted just minutes:

There was just a few minutes of violence. According to police, the suspect was detained at 12:02 a.m. after an officer arrived at midnight. Police reported 39 patrol officers and 11 ambulances responding to the scene.

It was found that Aldrich used a long rifle when he shot the victim, and that two firearms had been found at the scene, according to Vasquez, the police chief.

CNN affiliate KOAA reports that Joshua Thurman was dancing inside the club when he heard gunshots.

His response was, “I thought it was the music,” so he continued dancing. Thurman said he hid in a dressing room when he heard another round of shots.

A further round of gunfire was heard, people were crying, and windows were shattered, he said. Upon returning to the scene, Thurman saw dead bodies, broken glass, and blood on the ground.
