Amal Clooney (born 3 February 1978) is a Lebanese and British barrister. Her clients include Filipino and American journalist Maria Ressa; former President of the Maldives Mohamed Nasheed; Julian Assange, the founder of WikiLeaks; former Prime Minister of Ukraine Yulia Tymoshenko; Egyptian-born Canadian journalist Mohamed Fahmy; and Iraqi activist Nadia Murad.

She is also an Adjunct Professor of Law at Columbia Law School.

She and her husband American actor George Clooney co-founded the Clooney Foundation for Justice

Amal Clooney’s Parents And Siblings

The American University of Beirut is where her father Ramzi Alamuddin obtained his MBA. He is a Lebanese Druze from the village of Baakline, which is part of the Alam al-Din dynasty, in the Chouf District. After the civil war had ended in 1991, he went back to Lebanon.

Her mother, Baria, was born in Tripoli, Northern Lebanon, to a Palestinian-Jordanian mother and a family of Sunni Muslims.

She worked as a political journalist and the paper’s foreign editor for Saudi Arabia. She is one of the founders of the PR firm International Communication Experts, which is a division of a larger business that specializes in booking famous guests, publicity photography, and event promotion.

Tala, one of Amal’s sisters, and two half-brothers from her father’s first marriage make up her family of three.

Before going to college, Amal attended Dr. Challoner’s High School, a girls’ grammar school in Little Chalfont, Buckinghamshire.

She continued her studies at St. Hugh’s College in Oxford, where she won the Shrigley Award and an exhibition grant. In 2000, she earned a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in jurisprudence.

The following year, she enrolled in the Master of Laws (LL.M) program at the New York University School of Law.

The Jack J. Katz Memorial Award was given to her for her outstanding work in entertainment law. She spent one semester of her time at NYU working for Sonia Sotomayor, who was a faculty member at NYU Law and was at the time a judge for the Second Circuit of the United States Court of Appeals.

Clooney is licensed to practice law in Wales, England, and the United States. She was called to the Bar of England and Wales in 2010 after being accepted to the New York Bar in 2002.

She has also worked as a lawyer in many international tribunals in The Hague, such as the International Criminal Court and the International Court of Justice.

Clooney was admitted to the Inner Temple Bar of England & Wales in 2010. She works as an attorney at Doughty Street Chambers. Before international tribunals like the International Criminal Court, the International Court of Justice, and the European Court of Human Rights, Clooney represented clients.

She represents those who have endured enormous atrocities, such as genocide and sexual assault, and she is currently assisting a group of Yazidi victims from Iraq who are pursuing justice for the genocide and other crimes committed by ISIS, including Nobel Peace Prize winner Nadia Murad.

Clooney frequently represents journalists, and he is currently in charge of the worldwide legal team defending Maria Ressa, the CEO of the news website Rappler and a journalist from the Philippines.

Amal Clooney’s Husband And Children

She got married to George Clooney on 27 September 2014 in Venice’s city hall (at Ca’ Farsetti),  following a high-profile wedding ceremony two days earlier, also in Venice.

She and her husband welcomed their two kids, fraternal twins, a boy, and a girl- Alexander and Ella born in June 2017.
