On July 16, 1932, Anne Veronica Coke (pronounced “Cook”) was born in London and became Lady Glenconner. The majority of Lady Glenconner’s upbringing took place at her family’s Norfolk home, Holkham Hall.

The Honorable Thomas Coke and Lady Elizabeth Coke were her parents. When Thomas Coke, the 3rd Earl of Leicester, passed away in 1941, Lady Glenconner’s grandfather became the 4th Earl of Leicester, and her father Viscount Coke. After her grandfather passed away in 1949, her father succeeded him as the 5th Earl of Leicester. Carey (1934–2018) and Sarah, Lady Glenconner’s younger sisters, were both women (born in 1944). Lady Glenconner was a frequent playmate of the young Princess Elizabeth and Princess Margaret because Sandringham House, the residence of the King and Queen Elizabeth, was only around 20 miles from Holkham.
