On May 3, 1974, Princess Haya bint Hussein was born. She is a Hashemite and a direct descendant of the Prophet Muhammad in the 41st generation.

She is an outstanding rider and an Oxford University graduate from England. The International Federation for Equestrian Sports’ two-term President, she represented Jordan at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, Australia (FEI). She also takes part in numerous philanthropic endeavors.

Her Majesty the Queen Princess Haya is the two-term President of the International Federation of Equestrian Sports and a skilled rider. At the seventh Pan-Arab Games in 1992, she won the bronze medal in individual jumping. In 1993, Princess Haya was recognized as Jordan’s top athlete.

Princess Haya had equestrian training in Germany and Ireland, and she qualified for the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, Australia, representing Jordan as the first woman to do so in an international equestrian event. Later, in 2007, Her Royal Highness joined the International Olympic Committee (IOC). The Princess also serves on the International Paralympic Committee’s Honorary Board. She also served on the IOC Athletes’, Culture, and Olympic Education Commissions until being appointed to the IOC International Relations Committee in 2010. She became the first patron of Retraining of Racehorses in 2009 as a result of her considerable contributions to the equine industry.

Princess Haya, the daughter of King Hussein and his third wife, Queen Alia, was born in Amman, the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. Prince Ali bin Hussein, her younger brother, was born on December 23, 1975. Abir Muhaisen, her older sister, was born in 1973 and was adopted by Haya’s parents after her original mother perished in a plane crash at their Palestinian refugee camp in Amman. Three-year-old Haya lost her mother in a helicopter disaster in 1977. In 1999, her father passed away from non-Hodgkin lymphoma-related issues, handing the throne to her half-brother, King Abdullah II.

She pursued her education in the UK, first enrolling at the Bryanston School in Dorset before moving on to the Badminton School in Bristol in 1985. As his second and younger wife, Princess Haya wed Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates and Ruler of Dubai, on April 10, 2004. Al-Baraka Palace in Amman served as the location of the wedding ceremony.

She gave birth to Sheikha Al Jalila bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum in Dubai on December 2, 2007. The infant was born on December 2, the same day that the United Arab Emirates celebrated its National Day for the 36th time. Sheikh Zayed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, her second child, was born on January 7, 2012, to the couple.
