GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Kemari Leon Thomas, 17, has been charged as an adult in the July 18 shooting in the 2600 block of East University Avenue; the shooting victim was reportedly dropped off in the Verdant Cove complex.
Thomas allegedly fired several shots at a vehicle with several juvenile occupants as it drove through the area of 2600 E. University Avenue; a bullet struck a juvenile victim who was dropped off at Verdant Cove, where Alachua County Sheriff’s Deputies responded and arranged for the victim to be transported to a hospital.

Thomas has been charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and shooting into a vehicle. He has a juvenile criminal history of resisting arrest without violence, petit theft, and burglary to an unoccupied structure.
Judge Susan Miller-Jones set bail at $200,000 with a requirement for a GPS device upon release.
