Staff report

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Ken’montae Ignazio Davon Mitchell, 17, has been charged as an adult with two armed robbery incidents and battery by a person detained in a correctional facility.

At about 7:30 p .m. on November 26, 2023, a Gainesville Police Department officer responded to a call about an armed robbery at Fred Cone Park. The victim reportedly said he had arranged to meet an unidentified male to purchase an Xbox that had been advertised on Facebook Marketplace for $200. He said the seller showed him a bag containing an Xbox, but the controller wasn’t in the bag, so the seller left the park on foot and came back about five minutes later with the controller. When the victim took out the cash, he said, the seller took the cash, pulled out a handgun, pointed it at him, and said, “Don’t move or I’ll shoot you.” The seller then grabbed the bag with the Xbox and ran.

At about 2:15 a.m. on November 27, 2023, a different victim reported that he arranged to meet an unidentified male at Fred Cone Park to purchase an Xbox for $250. The second victim also reported that when he took out the cash, the seller took the cash and pulled out a gun, pointed it at him, grabbed the bag with the Xbox, and ran.

The victims provided the same Facebook profile for the seller, and detectives traced that to a woman believed to be romantically involved with Mitchell. The Instagram profile under the same account name reportedly posted a video showing a black male; that video was tagged with a second Instagram profile that reportedly posted a video showing Mitchell flashing cash a few hours after the robberies. The victims reportedly identified the male in that video as the seller who had robbed them. Detectives identified the male in the video as Mitchell and found that he lived a short walk from the park.

Mitchell was arrested on November 29 and booked into the Juvenile Detention Center. He was charged as an adult on December 19 and moved to the Alachua County Jail on December 20. Mitchell has juvenile convictions in 2022 and 2023; Judge Thomas Jaworski set bail at $500,000, and Mitchell remains in the Alachua County Jail.

Mitchell has also been charged with battery by a detainee in a correctional facility for an incident that occurred on December 1. Judge Jaworski set bail at $50,000.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
