18-Year-Old on Probation Charged as Adult for Alleged Juvenile Offenses

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Keshawn Tyrone Ferguson, who turned 18 on September 22, is facing adult charges in connection with alleged vehicle burglary, vehicle theft and firearm possession. The incidents reportedly occurred when Ferguson was 17.

On August 4, a Gainesville Police Department officer investigating a stolen Honda Civic learned through a license plate reader that the vehicle had traveled southbound on SW 23rd Drive from SW Archer Road at approximately 12:58 p.m. It was then detected heading east on Archer Road around 1:08 p.m. Based on the vehicle’s route and the timing, the officer went to the Wawa at 2373 SW Archer Road and requested surveillance footage.

The video reportedly showed the Civic arriving at a gas pump around 1 p.m. Two Black males who appeared to be juveniles exited the vehicle. Investigators later identified the driver as 15-year-old Deron Cortez Williams and the passenger as Ferguson, who was 17 at the time.

At about 1:03 p.m., the two juveniles entered the Wawa and used approximately $4 in change to purchase gasoline, according to the report.

Later, while responding to an unrelated call near Woodland Park Apartments, the same officer reportedly spotted both juveniles. She requested assistance and monitored them until backup arrived. The two were detained without incident.

After being read his Miranda rights, Ferguson reportedly told officers that he and Williams found the Civic unlocked and entered it. He said he could not remember where they located the vehicle.

Williams reportedly told investigators after receiving his Miranda warning that he and Ferguson had been at Canopy Apartments, located at 4400 SW 20th Avenue, and needed a ride home. He said they found a vehicle with the keys inside, entered it and drove to the 2200 block of E. University Avenue. The pair then left the Civic and took a bus to Woodland Park Apartments. Williams reportedly said the keys had been in the vehicle’s cupholder.

Williams directed officers to an area near SE 22nd Street and SE 2nd Avenue, where police recovered the Honda Civic.

Police reportedly found a Taurus G2c handgun inside Ferguson’s backpack. The firearm had been reported stolen from a vehicle on July 26, 2026. Ferguson allegedly told officers he found the gun near Woodland Park Apartments.

Williams’ GPS monitor reportedly placed him at the exact location of the residence where the Taurus handgun was stolen on July 31. The monitor also showed him at the Archer Road Wawa from approximately 1 p.m. to 1:07 p.m. on August 4, matching the timing captured on the gas station’s surveillance video.

During a second interview, Ferguson reportedly admitted that he had broken into a vehicle and found the Taurus handgun inside its glove compartment.

Ferguson is charged with possessing a firearm as an adjudicated delinquent under age 24, grand theft of a motor vehicle and burglary of an unoccupied vehicle. He remains on juvenile probation. Judge Meshon Rawls set bail at $85,000.

Authorities have not released additional details about Williams’ juvenile case.
