A 19-year-old Washington state woman has been charged with the attempted murder of her parents in an argument at their home on Sunday.

Police reports say an officer was called to the Vancouver home, where McKenzy Hafer lived with her parents and brother,  just after 5:30 p.m. after her mother, Erin Hetzler, called 911 and said the teen had stabbed her father and tried to cut her throat, KOIN reported.

Police found Hafer outside the home and took her into custody.

She told police that the incident began when her father, Benjamin Hafer, wished her a “happy resurrection day.” She replied that didn’t believe in God, which led to an argument, the court documents say. Ultimately, she returned the greeting and the two went into separate rooms.

Later, Hetzler confronted her about the argument while she was cooking, which prompted an argument between mother and daughter, and Hafer threw her phone down.

That brought Benjamin Hafer into the kitchen to asked about the phone, prompting his daughter to grab a knife and stab him above the belly button “with the intent to kill him,” according to the court documents.

Hetzler then began yelling at her daughter, who cut her mother’s throat with the same knife, also “with the intent to kill her,” the court documents said.

She was ordered held on a $500,000 bail, charged with two counts of attempted murder. Her arraignment is scheduled for May 5.
