Seven people were shot, two fatally, at a Memphis restaurant Wednesday night in a shooting that police say began as an altercation inside the business.

Memphis police said they arrived at Prive just after 11:15 p.m. and found two men with gunshot wounds, WHBQ reported. One was pronounced dead at the scene, and the other was taken to the hospital in critical condition but later died.

Another five people — four men and a woman — were taken to hospitals in private vehicles, police said.

“These senseless killings have to stop. Our guns laws in our country and state need to be reevaluated; we need common sense regulations limiting easy access to these weapons,” said Memphis Mayor Jim Strickland. “In addition, our court systems needs to have zero tolerance for gun and violent crimes.”

Police have not released any further information about the shooting — except to say their preliminary investigation indicates the shooting came out of a dispute — or said if they have any suspects.

WHBQ said evidence markers on the scene marked about 40 rounds.

According to WREG, the restaurant owners’ attorney said there was an altercation between two groups.

“It happened out in the parking lot, and it ended up in a shootout,” Arthur Horne told the station. “Nothing happened inside the restaurant. Despite any conflicting reports, they were closing, and this happened at the end of the evening in the parking lot.”

“On behalf of Prive, they’ve been in business for ten years, and nothing like this has ever happened at their establishment,” he said.

Memphis rapper Yo Gotti and his family own the restaurant, TMZ reported. He was not in town, and none of his family members were involved.
