3 Woman Shot Dead in Kansas City, Suspect Arrested 150 Miles Away

Three women were found shot to death at a home in Kansas City, Missouri, early Sunday morning.

Police were called to the area shortly before 1 a.m. on a report of gunfire, KMBC reported. They were directed to a home where they found the women, who were pronounced dead at the scene.

The victims were identified as Jodie Hopcus, 49; Sherri Duncan, 73; and Hailey Hopcus, 24. According to Facebook posts, Jodie Hopcus is Hailey Hopcus’s mother. Duncan’s familial relationship is not clear, but Jodie Hopcus’s maiden name is Duncan.

A suspect is in custody, and detectives are working with prosecutors to determine the appropriate charges. According to the Platt County Landmark, the male suspect was taken into custody in Abilene, Kansas, about 150 miles away.

Police Cpt. Jake Becchina told the Landmark that the suspect knew the victims. He has not yet been publicly named.
