4-Year-Old Florida Boy Kills Himself With Loaded, Unsecured Handgun He Found in Family Car

A 4-year-old Florida boy found a loaded, unsecured handgun in the family car Friday night and shot himself in the head with it.

Quinta and Robert Morris found their son, Chosen, in the car with a gunshot after hearing a “pop” and thinking the children had broken something, WTVT reported.

The parents rushed the boy to AdventHealth Heart hospital. He was transferred to Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children, where he died.

Police said the family had been getting ready for an evening outing when Chosen went to the car to wait. He found the deadly weapon under the driver’s seat.

“This is a tragic accident. As a father and grandfather, I can’t imagine what Mr. and Mrs. Morris are going through right now,” Davenport Police Chief Steve Parker said. “Our prayers are certainly with the Morris family as they endure this heartbreaking tragedy.”

A news conference on the incident is set for Monday.
