A 90-year-old man sustained serious injuries after his vehicle collided with a building on Thanksgiving in California, as reported by local authorities.

According to surveillance video, the man appeared to be driving at high speed before crashing into the Los Gatos Coffee Roasting Company. The Los Gatos police confirmed that he was transported to the hospital, where he remains in serious but stable condition, KGO has reported.

“There is suspicion that alcohol might have been a factor in this incident, although we are considering all possible causes as part of the ongoing investigation,” stated the police.

Terri Hope, the owner of the coffee shop, was notified of the crash and arrived to see the damage firsthand.

“Half of our building’s fixtures and furniture are completely destroyed. Thankfully, our coffee roaster remains intact and unscathed, which is crucial since it’s the core of our business,” she shared with KGO.

Santa Clara County Fire Department public information officer, Erica Ray, told the Los Gattan that local firefighters self-dispatched to the scene after seeing the speeding car’s taillights flash moments before hearing the collision.

“A solo-occupant, adult driver was extricated from the vehicle inside the business,” Ray commented. “The patient was transported to the hospital by County EMS Agency.”

The injured man’s current condition is unknown. It is also unclear whether he will face criminal charges for last Thursday’s incident.
