A Colorado coroner has ruled the death of a 97-year-old grandmother found dead in January a homicide after learning that her daughter, who was not identified in the report, left her outside an unoccupied home without her cell phone and walker.

Corrye Brewer was found dead on January 26 after being reported missing two days earlier, KKTV reported. She was found about 20 miles from where she was last seen.

“Per report, the decedent was intentionally left in the cold without any way to return home, get to adequate shelter, or call for help,” the El Paso County Coroner’s Office wrote. “Due to these circumstances, the manner of death is homicide.”

Temperatures during the time Brewer was missing dipped as low as 16 degrees, and the area received snow.

The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office said the local district attorney was reviewing the case to “determine if charges were appropriate.”
