Staff report

ALACHUA, Fla. – Alachua Police Department recently introduced K-9 Ramsey, named after fallen Gilchrist County Sheriff’s Office (GCSO) Deputy Sgt. Noel Ramirez and Deputy Taylor Lindsey, who were both killed in the line of duty on April 19, 2018.

K-9 Ramsey’s handler, Officer A. Gaston, previously served with Sgt. Ramirez and Deputy Lindsey at GCSO for several years. Officer Gaston stated, “In memory of my two lost brothers, Noel Ramirez and Taylor Lindsey, I named Ramsey after them by combining their last names. Sheriff Robert Schultz of Gilchrist County said, ‘The world is full of cowards and the world is full of heroes. We need to highlight those heroes and what they gave for us.’ This is just one way for me to be able to ensure that heroes never die.”

K-9 Ramsey was funded through the generous support of our community and K9s United. K-9 Ramsey was hand-picked by Jay Nix, Sergeant of the Marion County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) K-9 Unit and VP of K9s United. Officer Gaston and K-9 Ramsey have begun K-9 school with MCSO.
