A gunman accused of shooting a Georgia officer on Friday is in custody.

FOX5 reported that a tip came in that led law enforcement to a wooded area just outside McCaysville city limits, where they apprehended the accused shooter, Timothy Craig Ramsey, 26.

He was captured a little after 6 p.m. on Saturday.

McCaysville Chief of Police Michael Earley said, “We saw him and apprehended him,” WSB-TV reported.

As CrimeOnline previously reported, late Friday evening, Captain Brantley Worley was airlifted to a hospital in Chattanooga after being shot, according to WSB-TV.

Worley responded to a call on 1st Street for a suspicious person. Upon the officers’ arrival, reportedly, Ramsey allegedly opened fire.

“[He] brutally shot my officer in the face,” Earley said.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is now leading the investigation, according to WSB-TV.

Authorities have charged Ramsey with aggravated assault with intent to commit murder against a police officer, and he is being held in the Fannin County Jail.

Captain Worley remains in critical condition at Erlanger Hospital in Chattanooga, where he suffers from a broken neck and a brain bleed.

Prayers are needed. “We are asking everyone to keep him, his family, and our department in your thoughts and prayers during this very difficult time,” Earley wrote on social media.
