A body was found in a bayou on Wednesday — marking the seventh body recovered from a Texas city’s waterway in the last month.

Houston Public Media reported that the man’s body was recovered from White Oak Bayou after Houston police received a drowning call. Foul play is not suspected, but a cause of death is pending.

The man is the seventh person to be found dead in a Houston-area bayou in a month.  On September 15, University of Houston student Jade McKissic was found dead in Brays Bayou. She had vanished near campus five days earlier. Like the latest case, foul play is not suspected in her death.

Chron reported that 16 bodies have been found in local bayous this year. The previous year, 25 bodies were recovered from local bayous.

Last month, Houston officials dispelled rumors about a serial killer in the city, claiming the deaths appeared unconnected.

“I do say enough is enough on speculation, out of respect for the families and also the 2.3 million Houstonians in our region. We have challenges — we’re meeting those challenges — but a serial killer loose in Houston is not one of our challenges today,” Houston Mayor John Whitmire said.

Chron reported that the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences has identified five people, including McKissic, who were found in bayous since September 15. Authorities have not publicly named the man found in White Oak Bayou on Wednesday.
