A judge has approved an extension for the submission of closing arguments in the ongoing appeal of Mark Sievers. Initially, both state prosecutors and Sievers’ defense team were given a 45-day period to submit their written closing statements.
The original deadline was set for Monday, December 15. However, on November 19, Sievers’ post-conviction attorneys—Megan Montagno, Julissa Fontan, and John LoBianco—requested more time, citing their involvement in the impending execution of another client on death row.
Judge Bruce Kyle of the Lee Circuit Court has agreed to the extension.
Dr. Teresa Sievers, a respected and accomplished medical professional, had taken a vacation with her husband and two young daughters to visit family members in Connecticut.
She returned home ahead of her family to resume work commitments. When Teresa didn’t appear at work, her husband, Mark Sievers, asked one of her colleagues to check on her at their home.
Dr. Teresa Sievers was found brutally bludgeoned, still wearing the outfit, complete with high-heeled shoes, she wore home from the airport Sunday night. The kitchen is covered in blood, a hammer by her side.
Husband Mark Sievers is ultimately charged with murder, accused of arranging for his childhood friend, Curtis Wayne Wright, to murder his wife.
Wright pleaded guilty to 2nd-degree murder, cooperating with prosecutors in Mark Sievers’s trial. Sievers is convicted and now is appealing his death sentence.
