A tragic crash on US 93 in Congress, Arizona, has led to serious charges for a woman involved in the incident. Amy Lynn Mickelson, 48, is facing multiple felony charges, including murder and aggravated DUI, following a head-on collision with a van carrying seven people on December 7, 2024. The Arizona Department of Public Safety reported that Mickelson’s BMW sedan crossed the center line and struck a Toyota Sienna minivan, resulting in a devastating accident.

The collision claimed the lives of three individuals inside the van: the 51-year-old driver, along with passengers aged 17 and 44. The victims were pronounced dead at the scene, according to reports by KPHO. Mickelson herself sustained serious injuries and was hospitalized following the incident.

In addition to the fatalities, four other passengers in the minivan, all children aged between 5 and 16, suffered serious injuries and were transported to nearby hospitals for treatment. This tragic event left a community grieving and searching for answers.

Subsequent to the crash, Mickelson fled Arizona, relocating to Utah. The Arizona Department of Public Safety, with the assistance of the US Marshals Service, tracked her down and arrested her on March 19 outside a convenience store in Salt Lake City. She is currently held without bond at the Weber County jail and awaits extradition back to Yavapai County in Arizona to face the charges against her.

After the crash, Mickelson fled Arizona for Utah, where she “established residence.” DPS requested assistance from the US Marshals Service, and she was arrested on March 19 outside a convenience store in Salt Lake City. She’s being held without bond in the Weber County jail while she awaits extradition to Yavapai County in Arizona.

Investigators did not provide a timeline describing when Mickelson was released from the hospital and when she fled to Utah.

She has been charged with three counts of second-degree murder, seven counts of aggravated assault, two counts of felony endangerment, one count of criminal damage, and one count of aggravated DUI.
