Arkansas State Police are searching for a suspect in the killings of a couple who were hiking when they were attacked at Devil’s Den State Park on Saturday, July 26.

The police department identified Clinton David Brink, 43, and Cristen Amanda Brink, 41, as the victims of a brazen attack. They were hiking in the park with their two young daughters, aged 7 and 9, both of whom were left unharmed and are now in the custody of relatives.

Law enforcement was notified about the attack at around 2:40 p.m. on Saturday afternoon, and the public was notified the following day. ASP described the park as being in a remote and rural area, with rugged terrain and thick vegetation, and added that there’s no cellphone service there.

“We are deeply saddened by the tragic events that occurred at Devil’s Den State Park,” read a statement from Shea Lewis, Secretary of the Arkansas Department of Parks, Heritage and Tourism. “Our hearts are with the victims’ loved ones during this incredibly difficult time. The safety of our visitors and staff is our highest priority, and we are working closely with Arkansas State Police and various law enforcement officials as the investigation continues.”

Law enforcement presence has been increased at parks across Arkansas in the wake of the killings, Lewis added in the statement.

The official cause and manner of death are pending an autopsy, but audio broadcast over police radio indicated that two kids showed up at a visitor center to report that their parents were assaulted and that one was possibly stabbed, according to CNN

Police describe suspect in Arkansas murders as white male

Arkansas State Police described the suspect as being an “unknown white male” with a medium build. He wore a long sleeve shirt with the sleeves rolled up, dark pants, a dark ballcap, sunglasses, and fingerless gloves, and carried a black backpack.

He was seen heading towards the park’s exit in a black, four-door sedan, potentially a Mazda, with a license plate “covered by electrical or duct tape,” authorities said.

ASP asks anyone who visited the park on Saturday to review their photos and video to see if they may have captured any footage of the suspect.

“Investigators urge anyone with photos or video to not post footage on social media, as this may inadvertently jeopardize the investigation,” the department added.

The Brinks hailed as “heroes” by family

The Brink family recently moved to Prairie Grove, Arkansas, from out of state, authorities said.

“The family is asking for privacy during this very difficult time as they grieve and learn how to navigate this new reality,” relatives of the couple told ABC News in a statement, according to Arkansas affiliate KHBS. “They ask that if anyone has any information at all that will help in the investigation to please contact the proper authorities immediately. Clinton and Cristen died heroes protecting their little girls, and they deserve justice. They will forever live in all of our hearts.”

Anyone with information about the suspect or his whereabouts should contact ASP Troop L at (479) 751-6663.
