An arrest has been made in the fatal shooting of an off-duty police officer in Missouri, 17 years after his death.

KSDK reported that on Saturday, police charged Bradon M. Levy, 46, with the 2008 drive-by shooting of St. Louis Community College Police Officer Demond Taylor, 34.

The incident happened on June 20, 2008, when Taylor, in plain clothes, was reportedly mistaken for a rival gang member. Taylor was found with multiple gunshot wounds in the 5000 block of Page Boulevard in north St. Louis.

“He was off duty, not in uniform, when he was killed,” said St. Louis Police Chief Robert Tracy. “Tomorrow, Mr. Taylor would have celebrated his 52nd birthday.”

Police added that a third eyewitness’s account made the arrest possible. The witness spoke with police last month, and with that information, along with information from two 2018 witnesses, an arrest was made Friday.

At Saturday’s news conference, St. Louis Circuit Attorney Gabe Gore stated, “These charges are based largely on testimony from eyewitnesses at the scene,” FOX 2 Now reported.

This is still an open investigation, with other possible suspects involved.

Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the SLMPD Homicide Division. To remain anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers at (866) 371-TIPS.
