GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Authorities apprehended 29-year-old Wanya Kharityjahn Ward late yesterday evening, following accusations of him threatening to kill a woman through written communication.
The Alachua County Sheriff’s department responded to an incident around 11:10 p.m. on July 15 at Majestic Oaks. It was here that the alleged victim explained that Ward had begun dispatching menacing texts to her while she was not at home. Importantly, the deputy clarified that there was no romantic involvement between Ward and the victim, nor do they share a residence, thus classifying this as a non-domestic situation.
According to the deputy’s report, the victim presented evidence of threatening texts and vocal recordings. One particular text chillingly warned, “I will kill you,” alongside audio in which Ward threatened to harm her and expressed no fear of police intervention. The victim revealed that she was terrified for her safety and felt unsafe returning home.
Ward was detained by the deputy, although he allegedly continued to shout threats at the victim, warning her that retribution was imminent. While being escorted to the patrol car, Ward reportedly remarked that this incident stemmed solely from a series of text exchanges.
Ward, who is described as homeless on the arrest report, has been charged with making a written threat to kill and unlawful use of a two-way communications device. He has no criminal convictions, and Judge Susan Miller-Jones set bail at $70,000.
