Press release from Gainesville Police Department

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The Gainesville Police Department is seeking the public’s help in identifying the driver involved in a hit-and-run that occurred on September 1, 2024, in the 1000 block of West University Avenue.

At approximately 2 a.m, two pedestrians were struck by a red sedan traveling eastbound. The collision occurred as the pedestrians attempted to cross the road in a non-crosswalk area. The driver of the sedan failed to stop at the scene, render aid, or provide information, fleeing immediately after the incident.

Both pedestrians sustained serious injuries and were transported to a local hospital for treatment.

We urge anyone who may have witnessed this incident or has any information regarding the red sedan or its driver to come forward. Even the smallest detail could be vital in our investigation.
