A Maryland woman was tragically discovered deceased in the apartment of her former boyfriend after he reported her missing and subsequently flew to India.

Arjun Sharma, aged 26, informed law enforcement on January 2 that the last time he saw 27-year-old Nikitha Godishala was on December 31 at his residence, according to Howard County police. Following the report, Sharma left the country for his homeland, India.

Detectives visited Sharma’s apartment the next day, where they discovered Godishala’s lifeless body.

Authorities suspect that Sharma committed the murder on the evening of December 31, though they have yet to determine a motive.

WJZ reports that Godishala died from stab wounds. An arrest warrant has been issued for Sharma, charging him with first- and second-degree murder.

“There was obviously some premeditation to be able to do this and then to flee the country, so that’s what we have right now as far as charges,” Howard County police spokesman Seth Hoffman told WJZ.

Police said they are now working with federal authorities to locate Sharma in India and bring him back to the United States to face charges.
