Investigators are exploring a potential connection between the recent shootings at Brown University and the murder of an MIT professor earlier this week.
According to law enforcement sources, a suspect has been identified, and a warrant has been issued in relation to the mass shooting that occurred at Brown University on Saturday. Authorities are examining whether this incident may be linked to the homicide of a Massachusetts Institute of Technology professor, which took place on Monday.
On Thursday night, a significant police presence was noticed at a storage facility in Salem, New Hampshire. Officers from the Providence Police Department were observed at the scene, some with weapons drawn, as they conducted their investigation, reported the Providence Journal. Despite the intense activity, some officers appeared more at ease.
Boston 25 News reported that the focus of the investigation at the storage facility was an abandoned vehicle that matched the make and model of one believed to have been rented by the suspect.
Further developments from CBS News revealed that the rented vehicle matches the description of a car observed near the residence of MIT professor Nuno Loureiro.
Loureiro, 47, was shot Monday night at his home and died at a hospital overnight, as CrimeOnline reported. Neighbors said they heard multiple gunshots.
Saturday’s shooting at Brown, an Ivy League school in Providence, Rhode Island, took place in the school’s engineering building as students were studying for final exams, CrimeOnline reported. The masked shooter is believed to have entered that building via a residential street, also possibly explaining why there are no clear pictures of the suspect.
Two students were killed and nine others wounded.
Meanwhile, officials have asked residents to review their security and phone footage, as they believe the shooter may have been in the area a week before the deadly mass shooting.
