Efforts persist in the search for a Missouri teenager who disappeared in 2008 at the age of 16.
Just days after Christmas, Shemika Cosey attended a sleepover at her cousin’s house in Berkeley. The two spent the night watching videos until the early hours. It wasn’t until later that Cosey’s aunt realized she was missing, and the home’s front door was found unlocked, according to a report from KSDK.
Notably, Cosey’s purse and jacket were missing, yet her clothing and overnight bag remained at the residence.
Though initially labeled a runaway, Cosey’s family strongly believes she would not have left willingly.
“She was classified as an endangered runaway, and I don’t understand why she was considered a runaway since it was her first time ever going missing,” Cosey’s mother expressed to KOMU last year.
Cosey would be 33 today. She is believed to be in the area, according to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children, who created an age-progression image of her in 2024.
Cosey was described as standing 5 feet, 4 inches tall, weighing 135 pounds, and having black hair and brown eyes. Anyone with information regarding her whereabouts should call Berkeley police at 314-524-3311.
Cosey’s case is being covered as part of CrimeOnline’s “Finding the Lost: Black and Missing” series, which will feature a missing Black person every day in February. The full series can be read here.
