In a report by Los Angeles-based NBC affiliate KNBC, it was revealed that the couple’s oldest son provided crucial information during an interview. He stated that Almanza allegedly confessed to the murder while they were traveling toward the border, with Romero’s lifeless body seated beside him in the car. This tragic sequence of events has cast a somber shadow over their family.
Almanza reportedly communicated with several family members during this ordeal. His mother was particularly instrumental in alerting authorities. She informed Mexican officials that her son had killed Romero, the mother of their five children, whose ages range from 16 to 26 years old. It is believed that the murder took place in Long Beach, California, where the couple resided.
Mexican prosecutor Miguel Angel Gaxiola, from Baja California, spoke with KNBC, emphasizing the ongoing cooperation between authorities on both sides of the border. “Right now, we are exchanging information to try to locate the scene of the crime that occurred there in Long Beach,” he stated, underscoring the cross-border efforts to piece together the details of this grievous crime.

Almanza was arrested on Sunday in connection with Romero’s murder. According to KNBC, he told detectives that he and Romero had an argument leading up to the alleged killing. Neither a motive nor a cause of death was made clear.
