Former Beauty and The Geek contestant Tamika Chesser has welcomed a new life while incarcerated, following her arrest nine months ago under suspicion of murdering her boyfriend.
The news of the birth was shared by Australian outlet 9News.
Chesser, who gained fame on the 2010 season of the Australian reality show, is accused of the heinous crime involving her boyfriend, Julian Story, 39, in June. She remains in a psychiatric institution near Adelaide under mental health detention, as reported by the media.
At the time of her apprehension, Chesser was already expecting, as noted by 9News. However, the identity of the child’s father remains undisclosed. Efforts by Oxygen to obtain further details from South Australia Health have yet to be fruitful.
Tamika Chesser Accused of Beheading Boyfriend Julian Story
Chesser was taken into custody after South Australia Police were called to a Port Lincoln home just before 3:30 p.m. on June 19 for a small fire, according to a statement from the agency.
Police discovered Story’s lifeless body upon arrival at the scene.
“It was a confronting scene for police and emergency services personnel as Julian’s body had been dismembered,” police said. “Julian’s head had been removed during the dismemberment and, despite extensive searches, has not yet been located.”
A witness who called emergency responders to report the fire told police that he saw smoke coming out of the apartment unit and went to speak to Chesser, according to court documents obtained by Australia’s ABC news outlet. When the witness asked her what she was doing, she allegedly replied “nothing” and then went to walk her dogs.
Concerned that the fire would spread, per the court records, the witness entered a back door of the unit with a bucket of water and found a bundle of clothing rags and debris smoldering in the bathroom. Story’s body was discovered “severely burnt and disgured” inside the bathroom when firefighters arrived, according to the documents.
By then, police noted in the documents, Chesser “was seated in a garden chair in the rear yard adjacent to unit 3 in a catatonic and unresponsive state.”
Police believe the 39-year-old was killed around midnight on June 17. They released surveillance footage and images of Chesser seen out walking her dogs the week of the murder as they requested help from the public to create a timeline of her movements to try to find Story’s missing head.
“All murders cause pain and grief for the victims’ family and friends,” Detective Superintendent Darren Fielke said in the police statement. “The circumstances of this murder are particularly harrowing, confronting and distressing.”
A human skull, later identified as Story’s, was found July 31 by a member of public in scrubland east of Port Lincoln, ABC reported.
Chesser has been charged with the murder. She’s scheduled to appear in court next month, per 9News.
