A 24-year-old woman has been charged with killing a Massachusetts man found stabbed to death on his houseboat earlier this week.

Joseph Donohue, 65, was stabbed dozens of times in the head and chest, WCVB reported. His body was then wrapped in a rug and blanket, duct-taped, and then hand weights were tied to him, police said.

Donohue, a Boston attorney, lived alone on the boat with his two dogs, one of whom was found dead in the water nearby. Divers also found the murder weapon, which had broken off in his skull, in the water.

Nora Nelson was arrested at the scene on unrelated charges, police said, but she was charged Thursday with felony murder and is expected to be arraigned on Friday.

Investigators are now trying to trace Nelson’s movements before the murder, using credit card purchases and surveillance video, sources said.

Donohue’s family issued a statement asking for privacy.

“Our family is heartbroken by this unimaginable loss,” the statement said. “Joe was a wonderful family member, a cherished friend, and a trusted colleague. Always generous and kind, he dedicated his life and career to helping others. He is loved and will be deeply missed.”

According to WBTS, Nelson was previously charged in 2023 with assault and battery on a family member and a police officer.
