A boy abducted by his non-custodial mom from Georgia seven years ago has been found in Colorado.

Abdul Aziz Khan, then 7, was reported missing on November 27, 2017, when his mother, 40-year-old Rabia Khalid, failed to show up for a custody hearing in Atlanta, WAGA reported.

Police say she fled with the boy and her husband, Elliot Blake Bourgeois, 42.

There had been no signs of them until February 23, when Douglas County, Colorado, deputies were called to a vacant home for an apparent burglary in progress, KDVR reported. When they arrived, they found two adults exiting the property and two children in a car parked in the driveway. The adults claimed be associated with a realtor, but when deputies checked on their identities, they learned the two adults were Khalid and Bourgeois, and one of the children — now 14 — was the missing boy from Atlanta.

“We’re overwhelmed with joy that Aziz has finally been found. We want to thank everyone for their support over the last seven years. We specifically want to recognize the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office for their exceptional work in solving this case,” Khan’s family said in a statement. “Now, as we navigate the next steps, we ask for privacy so that we can move forward as a family and heal together.”

Khalid and Bourgeois have been charged with second degree kidnapping, forgery, identity theft, providing false information to authorities, and trespassing. They’re being held on $1 million bonds. They’re due in court on March 27.

Both Khan and the other child were taken into protective custody, and a court will determine next steps for them. The other child, who is younger than the missing boy, was not identified.
