Authorities in Alabama announced on Thursday that the tragic case involving a Mississippi mother and her 3-year-old daughter, who were found deceased in Alabama, has been determined to be a murder-suicide.
Shardee McGill, aged 32, along with her daughter Janae, disappeared from Jackson, Mississippi, on September 21. Just two days later, her abandoned vehicle was located by the Tombigbee River in Alabama. According to WBRC, Shardee’s body was discovered in the river on September 25, followed by her daughter’s body the next day.
The disappearance was reported by Shardee McGill’s husband a day after they went missing. The Jackson police detained and questioned him, but he was released early in the investigation, as reported by the Clarion Ledger.
Sergeant Reginal King of the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency revealed that both deaths were determined to be due to drowning. Janae’s death has been classified as a homicide, while Shardee’s was ruled a suicide, as reported by AL.com.
Sergeant King stated, “Throughout the investigation, it has been concluded that no other suspects are involved.”
Despite this determination, an investigation is ongoing. The Clarion Ledger reported that police’s findings will be presented to prosecutors for review.
