In a troubling development, the boyfriend of a missing woman from Arizona has been taken into custody on charges related to the theft and damage of her vehicle, which authorities found with bloodstains.

Isabella Comas, 21, was last seen departing a friend’s residence on January 11, according to Avondale police. Her phone turned up at a recycling center the next day, and by January 13, her car was located in Phoenix, as reported by KSAZ.

On January 15, police arrested 39-year-old Tommy Rodriguez upon his return from a trip to California. Rodriguez reportedly confessed to having a disagreement with Comas just before she disappeared, but investigators found discrepancies in his account.

According to detectives, surveillance footage and license plate readers captured Rodriguez driving Comas’ vehicle on January 12. Alarming evidence included the removal of the passenger seat and trunk lining, both of which were stained with blood. The car also contained gas canisters, trash bags, and a tarp, as detailed by KNXV.

Authorities further revealed that a tracking app on Comas’ phone was manually disabled shortly after she went missing.

While police said Rodriguez could not explain where Comas was, has not been charged in connection with her disappearance. KNXV reported that Rodriguez has a lengthy criminal history which includes a prison sentence for second-degree murder. He is also on probation for a 2020 incident in which he stalked an ex-girlfriend and threatened her with a hammer and machete.

Comas was described as standing 5 feet, 3 inches tall, weighing about 110 pounds, and having brown eyes and pink hair. She was last seen wearing a baggy navy-blue shirt, blue pants with a white stripe down the side, and sandals.
