Reports have surfaced that Bryan Kohberger, who is serving a life sentence at a maximum-security prison in Idaho, is dissatisfied with the food quality he receives.
Chris McDonough, a retired homicide detective, shared with NewsNation that Kohberger has voiced complaints about the bananas served at Idaho Maximum Security Institution. According to McDonough, Kohberger expressed his discontent to prison staff regarding the type of bananas available to him.
“It seems he may not fully grasp that as an inmate, one does not have the luxury to select or dictate their meals,” McDonough remarked in his conversation with NewsNation.
Kohberger, 30, avoided the death penalty by admitting to the brutal stabbing of Ethan Chapin, Xana Kernodle, Madison Mogen, and Kaylee Goncalves on November 13, 2022, at a residence in Moscow. As part of his plea agreement, he received a life sentence without parole and relinquished his right to appeal.
NewsNation further reported that Kohberger is held in a single-person cell within the prison’s long-term restrictive housing. He is allotted one hour of outdoor recreation daily.
McDonough told the news outlet that Kohberger is having a tough time behind bars, as staff see how “relentless” inmates are towards him. Staff are reportedly conflicted because moving him to general population would only make him a bigger target.
McDonough said, “My source tells me he entered that prison with this idea: ‘I’m Brian Kohberger. I just killed four people, so therefore I’m one of you,’ and that’s not how it’s playing out at all, and they resent him for it.”
