In a concerning case out of Gainesville, Florida, 17-year-old Garren Luther Johnson finds himself facing adult felony charges. The accusations stem from the possession of ammunition and several Glock handguns, two of which had illegal modifications allowing them to function as fully automatic weapons. Additionally, during his arrest, Johnson allegedly made threats against a law enforcement officer.
The sequence of events began on November 15, 2025, when deputies from the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to an apartment in Tower Oaks Glen. The call reported a juvenile in possession of a firearm. Before arriving at the scene, deputies conducted a review of Johnson’s social media accounts. They reportedly discovered posts featuring him with a black handgun tucked in his waistband, accompanied by another image showing Johnson with five Glock handguns.
Upon reaching the apartment, law enforcement officers received consent from the leaseholder to conduct a search of the premises. Their investigation led them to Johnson’s bedroom, where they allegedly found a loaded 9mm Glock magazine, a red-tip 762×39 rifle round, four .380 rounds, and three 9mm rounds.
The search extended to a backpack located in the living room, revealing a more alarming cache: a Glock 19 loaded with 31 rounds in an extended magazine, a Glock 34 with an empty 31-round extended magazine and an illegal “switch” for full-automatic operation, a Glock 23 loaded with 13 rounds of 40mm bullets in a 22-round extended magazine, and another Glock 19 loaded with seven 9mm rounds in a 30-round extended magazine, also equipped with a full-automatic conversion “switch.” These discoveries have resulted in the serious legal charges now facing the teenager.
A search of a backpack found in the living room reportedly produced a Glock 19 loaded with 31 rounds in an extended magazine; a Glock 34 with an empty 31-round extended magazine and equipped with a “switch” that converts it to fully-automatic operation; a Glock 23 loaded with 13 rounds of 40mm bullets in a 22-round extended magazine; and a Glock 19 loaded with seven 9mm rounds in a 30-round extended magazine, also equipped with a “switch” that converts it to fully-automatic operation.
As deputies were arresting Johnson, he allegedly said, “Imma beat your ass!” to a deputy at the scene.
Post Miranda, Johnson reportedly said the bedroom where the ammunition was found was his, but the ammunition was not his. He said the firearms and ammunition in the backpack were also not his.
Johnson has three juvenile convictions for vehicle burglary and thus is an adjudicated delinquent who is not permitted to possess firearms or ammunition until he is 24 years old.
Johnson, who was described as a Buchholz High School student on his arrest report but has been in a juvenile detention facility since November, has been formally charged with possession of ammunition by an adjudicated delinquent, possession of firearms and ammunition by an adjudicated delinquent, possession of a machine gun, and threatening a law enforcement officer with serious bodily harm. On December 31, Judge Denise Ferrero ordered that Johnson will be charged as an adult and set bail at $500,000.
