The charges against Michael McKee have been elevated to four counts of aggravated murder following the tragic deaths of his ex-wife, Monique Tepe, and her husband, Spencer. These charges reflect the severity of the crime and underscore the gravity of the situation.

Adding a chilling detail to the case, the indictment reveals that McKee allegedly used a firearm equipped with a silencer, a device intended to muffle the sound of gunfire. This premeditated aspect of the crime is compounded by an additional charge of aggravated burglary, as McKee is accused of breaking into the Tepe residence with the intent to commit these heinous acts.

Authorities have linked McKee to the crime scene through surveillance footage, which reportedly shows him in the alley behind the Tepe home between the early hours of 2 a.m. and 5 a.m. on the day of the murders. This critical piece of evidence places him at the location at a time that aligns with the tragic events.

Further incriminating McKee, detectives have utilized license plate reader data and advanced surveillance technology to trace his vehicle’s movements. This investigation tracks his journey of approximately 325 miles from Illinois to Columbus, Ohio, pinpointing his arrival just before the murders and his departure shortly thereafter.

While the investigation continues, a motive has yet to be publicly disclosed. However, authorities have characterized the murders as “domestic violence-related,” indicating a deeply personal element to the crime. This ongoing case continues to unravel as investigators piece together the circumstances surrounding this shocking incident.

McKee and Monique were married for a short period of time and have been divorced since 2017, but a clerical error caused the divorce case to receive a new hearing date, appearing on the docket for this past June and showing a trial date for September, just three months before the murders.

When court officials determine it is a clerical error, the court date for September is cancelled.​
