In a shocking incident on Christmas Eve, an Illinois hotel guest allegedly turned a festive gathering into a violent attack, repeatedly stabbing a fellow celebrant as he slept on an inflatable mattress, according to prosecutors.
Uberclein Vazquez Villareal, aged 40, now faces serious charges of armed violence and aggravated battery following the purported assault, which resulted in the victim being hospitalized with several stab wounds, reported the DuPage County State’s Attorney’s Office.
According to a statement from the state’s attorney’s office released on Saturday, the victim was celebrating Christmas Eve in a hotel room with another man when Vazquez Villareal allegedly began to disturb him in his sleep. The third person had stepped out to take a call, and upon returning, discovered the grisly scene and immediately contacted authorities.
“Upon arrival, officers encountered an individual hiding behind the hotel’s front desk, who reported a stabbing had occurred,” stated the state’s attorney’s office. “The officers proceeded to Room 345, where they found Vazquez Villareal in the hallway, his hands stained with blood.”
Vazquez Villareal was promptly detained, and officers entered the room to discover the victim lying on an inflatable bed, suffering from numerous stab wounds to his upper body. The victim was rushed to a nearby hospital for urgent treatment, as detailed by prosecutors.
Authorities learned during the course of their investigation that Vazquez Villareal allegedly harassed the victim and went berserk while wielding a 4.5-inch blade.
“The type of violence alleged in this case is shocking and will not be tolerated in DuPage County,” said DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin in a statement.
Vazquez Villareal is being held without bond and his next court appearance is scheduled for Jan. 20, 2026, according to the state’s attorney’s office. The health status of his alleged victim is currently unknown.
