In a chilling case out of Oakland, California, a man already known for his violent tendencies faces charges for the brutal murder of a woman at a residential hotel. Jeffrey McMaster Jr., aged 44, is accused of the murder of 49-year-old Leslie Marshall on February 2, as reported by The Mercury News. The tragic incident occurred at the Twin Peaks Motel, where both the victim and the suspect resided.

Surveillance footage captured the harrowing scene of McMaster allegedly kicking and beating Marshall to death before calmly returning to his room. Police later discovered him there with bloodstains on his hands, and he purportedly admitted to the crime. At the time, McMaster was on probation following a 2023 assault case involving his roommate, classified as elder abuse, a detail highlighted by the East Bay Times.

McMaster’s criminal history is extensive, marked by a series of violent offenses. In addition to his probation for elder abuse, he has faced numerous legal issues, including arrests for parole violations, burglary, and weapon possession while incarcerated. There are also allegations of him attacking a fellow inmate, involving biting, punching, and stabbing with a pencil.

One particularly alarming incident dates back to 2008, when McMaster was arrested for assaulting a woman with the intent to rape. During this attack, he allegedly pinned her down and applied pressure to her throat. The woman managed to escape when McMaster momentarily released her to shut a window. In a subsequent recorded phone call, she confronted him, and he reportedly expressed remorse. This arrest was notable for McMaster’s own admission to police that he might not be suited for societal life if he continued his violent behavior.

But it was the 2008 arrest in which he warned police he probably shouldn’t be on the streets. In that case, he was accused of attacking a woman with intent to rape, lying on her with his full body weight while leaning against her throat with his hand. She escaped when he suddenly got up to close a window and later confronted him by phone in a taped call in which he apologized, court records show.

When police arrived to arrest him, he told them he’d sexually assaulted multiple women before, adding that “I’m not fit for society if I keep doing s*** like this.”

He was ultimately sentenced to four years in state prison for that assault and required to register as a sex offender.

McMaster is being held without bail and is scheduled to be arraigned on Wednesday.
