Georgia officials revealed on Monday that a woman who was found dead in a lake earlier this month had air in her lungs.

Putnam County Sheriff Howard Sills said Spelman College instructor Joycelyn Wilson was found floating in Lake Oconee on February 8, shortly after the fishing boat she was on was discovered going in circles. Wilson’s fiancé, Westminster Schools teacher Gary Jones, was reportedly last seen at the lake roughly two hours before his boat was found unattended, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Jones remains unaccounted for, and so is his phone, which was last pinged in the area. Jones’ shoes were recovered from the opposite of the lake where Wilson’s body was discovered, WXIA reported.

According to WXIA, Sills explained that air in Wilson’s lungs explained why her body was found floating. He also disclosed that Wilson was found holding her phone, but it is unclear whether data from the phone has been used in their investigation.

Several search warrants have been issued as Jones’ whereabouts remain under investigation. Reports indicated that Wilson’s death is being treated as an active investigation, not a simple drowning.

”The totality of all the circumstances … is requiring us to take additional measures to thoroughly investigate this case,” Sills on Monday.
