A tragic incident unfolded in Texas where a 29-year-old man is accused of fatally stabbing his brother during a heated argument, witnessed by several people. The suspect reportedly attacked his older sibling multiple times in the back.

Authorities have charged Nestor Eduardo Flores with the murder of his 43-year-old brother, Jose Gabriel Flores, according to official records.

Hidalgo County Sheriff Eddie Guerra reported that deputies responded to a stabbing call at approximately 8:33 p.m. on a Wednesday evening. The incident took place at a home on the 3500 block of Mile 13 North, situated in a rural area roughly 240 miles from San Antonio.

When the authorities arrived, they discovered Jose Flores severely injured with multiple stab wounds. It was noted that the injuries were allegedly inflicted by his brother. Despite being rushed to a nearby hospital, Jose succumbed to his injuries and passed away.

Nestor Flores had allegedly fled the scene on foot by the time law enforcement arrived. He was later apprehended at his residence the following morning. After being briefly hospitalized, he was released on Thursday evening, as reported by ABC affiliate KRGV in Weslaco, Texas. A report from the station also featured footage of Nestor at his arraignment on Friday, showing him with a sling on his left arm.

Witnesses to the incident told investigators that Nestor Flores and his older brother had gotten into a verbal argument that escalated into a physical confrontation, Brownsville-based NBC and CBS affiliate KVEO reported. At some point, Nestor Flores allegedly pulled a knife and stabbed Jose Flores several times in the back.

It was not immediately clear what the two siblings were arguing about prior to the fatal attack.

Nestor Flores’ defense attorney, Hector Hernandez Jr., told the judge that his client was likely acting in self-defense when he stabbed his brother, according to KRGV. Hernandez sought $10,000 bond for his client, but the court set the bond amount at $1 million, records show.

A date for Nestor Flores’ next court appearance was not available as of Sunday evening.
